Before you begin investing, you will have to update your profile. To do so on the web, go to Buy/Sell and fill the sections. On the mobile app, go to the menu, click on Apply for trading. For Kenyans with a Kenyan ID, you can do the partial profile update which you will only need your ID number and phone number to do so.
Funding Your Account
To deposit into your account, click on My Account if you are on the mobile app. On the web app, go to the user icon top right, click on Fund My Account.
There are various methods available to you for funding your trading account. We recommend using M-Pesa as it is cheaper, easier and more convenient.
Investing in Stocks
You can start by trying the practice trading feature on the web platform. This will help you quickly learn how to buy and sell shares using virtual funds which you can pick when starting Practice trading.
When you are ready to buy shares in the actual market, go to Buy/Sell shares on the web page, enter the name of the company you want to buy shares, the amount, and the price you want to buy at. Enter your validity date, this is a date at which if your order has not be fulfilled, it expires. Confirm your order and proceed to place it in the market. You can use the same process for selling shares.
On the mobile app, you will search for the company you want to buy, open the company page, click on the green Buy button. To sell shares bought through Abacus, you will click on the red Sell button.
